U.S. Coronavirus Cases Jump; FDA Approves Rapid Test

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. had surged to nearly 20,000 as of Saturday, almost 10 times their level a week ago, with already strained New York state accounting for half the infections in the country.

In an effort to stem the rapid spread, the Food and Drug Administration approved the first point-of-care test for the coronavirus that can be given to patients, with results within 45 minutes and treatment immediately following if necessary.
